This country shares boundary with France – 488 km, Switzerland – 740 km, Austria – 430 km and Slovenia – 232 km.
The independents states of San Marino (39 km of border) and the Vatican City (3,2 km) are enclaves within Italy.

Customs regulations
Citizens of Poland have the right to free movement within European Union/European Economic Area.
Travell document which allows to enter and stay in Italian Republic for 90 days without visa is identity card or passport.
In case of stay shorter than three months EU citizens gain the right to residence in Italy without any additional conditions and formalities except possession of identity card or passport. Also a family member of UE citizen gains the right to movement and residence, regardless of his nationality. Limitation concerning the right to movement and residence can occur only because of safety or public health policy.
The right to residence for longer than three months can be gained by UE citizens which are employed or making a business in the host member state.
There are no restrictions on the cash importation, but in case of large sums during the border control may be required further clarification.
It is possible to export up to 10000 euro in cash.
From 1 October 2004 pets accompanying people travelling to EU countries must have passports, as required by UE law. To make a passport with emblems of EU are required documents containing data about the owner and information about the pet. Also is necessary to show certificate of vaccination and medical history of the animal. The pet must have an ID as electronic chip, whose number and location will be noted in passport. The same rules concerning travelling with cats and dogs exists in neighboring countries which are not members of UE, but having same standards of protection against rabies. Safety
Tourists in Italy are exposed primarily to the theft of pocket (documents, money) as well as burglary and car theft.
In recent years, occurence of illegal labor has increased. It's recommended to strengthen vigilance against the job in Italy.
Health
In Italy there are no sanitary-epidemiological risks.
No vaccinations are required.
People who pays contributions to the National Fund Health have the right to healthcare under insurance. When going to a doctor in Italy, you must take the evidence of insurance, ie the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). EHIC authorise the use of primary health services, so travelling is recommended to tak out additional insurance, which, if necessary, will cover the cost of treatment in a wider area, as well as costs of medical care in private hospitals and clinics.
A visit to a General Practicioner is free. If your doctor will order specialized tests, flat fee is charged, determined independently by the authorities of each region.
In urgent cases and holidays you may go to the hospital dispensary. If your doctor determines that the situation required urgent intervention, the service is free of charge.
Polish citizens studying in Italy are entitled to all medical services necessary to ensure that their condition will not worsen over a period of study.
It means that they can heal not only in emergencies, but receive help in every need of care, may carry the cost of the insurance company required periodic testing or use the advice specialists.
Worth to know
Drugs crimes in Italy are in danger of imprisonment in a different time (from one to 22 years) and a financial penalty.
Buying counterfeit articles_en on the streets is punished (up to 3000 euro).
There is an obligation to register a foreigner, which should be fulfilled by the Italian citizen inviting a foreigner. It must to report to local police the residence of an alien and give the exact address within 48 hours.
Highways are paid.
Foreigners residing in Italy should always carry identity documents. A foreigner who does not posses any document can be stopped to explain.
Theft should be immediately reported to the nearest police station or the carabinieri. The protocol will be needed to obtain compensation from the insurance company.
As soon as possible to block the lost or stolen cards and credit cards.
Loss of passport or other document should not only be reported to the police, but as soon as possible contact with the Polish base.
