Hotel prices on the up!
In April 2010 hotel prices rose, compared to those of march this year, by 12%!
Some hotels’ prices are higher than in 2009. This leads us to the conclusion that the hotel service market is rebuilding after problems stemming from the economical crisis..
According to a hotel price list compiled by the website Trivago.pl the biggest rise in prices took place at hotels of Venice and Paris, where prices rose on average by 52%. Barcelona, Istanbul and Rome noted an increase of 50% in prices.
An explanation of this state of affairs might be that Easter was in march, however last year, falling in April, it hardly influenced hotel prices – they rose only by 1% compared to march 2009.
Due to the crisis some of companies considerably limited entertainment allowances allotted for business trips, and consequently, delegated their employees less often. On account of this, some of the hotels wanting to be competitive decided to lower prices of the services they offered.
A similar situation, one of an increase in hotel prices, takes place in Poland: the most often visited hotels have noted a rise in prices of one or so to several dozens per cent. Of big provincial cities only Poznan (decrease of 9%) and Wrocław (no change in prices) haven't noted any increase. But for example in Zakopane the average rise in hotel prices has been of 12%. What contributed to this state of affairs was among other things the long weekend. However, the weak euro is an important factor too, causing foreigners to pay more for a room than in 2008. This situation affects also Polish consumers.
A lack of further increase in prices is predicted, particularly in prices of tours organized by travel agencies, who sign contracts with hotels in considerable advance. In such case exchange values oscillations don't matter that much. It can't be excluded though, that there will be a slight rise in prices in may this year.
